Overview
Evaluating how financial literacy can enhance household resilience, informed decision-making, and long-term economic wellbeing.
This assignment constituted a learning-oriented, retrospective evaluation of the Financial Literacy (FinLit) component of the Strengthened and Informative Migration Systems (SIMS) programme.
The evaluation was designed to assess the relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, contribution, and sustainability of the FinLit intervention, which aimed to strengthen household financial resilience among migration-affected families; particularly left-behind women managing remittances; through training in budgeting, savings, remittance use, risk management, and formal financial services.
Adopting a contribution-oriented rather than attribution-seeking posture, the evaluation employed a qualitative-dominant mixed-methods design by integrating secondary evidence review, descriptive quantitative comparison between participants and a non-participant group, and in-depth qualitative inquiry to generate actionable insights for future programme design, strategic reflection, and policy dialogue in migration, financial inclusion, and gender-responsive programming.
